New permit parking restrictions are currently being voted on by residents of the Hollywood Sign neighborhood.  Please be extra careful about where you park when viewing the Sign and remember to never block the road while trying to snap a photo of the Hollywood Sign. Please visit our Seeing the Sign page for more information about viewpoints and hikes that have lots of parking options available.

During the month of August, the Hollywood Sign shuttle has extended its hours!  Now operating from 9 am to 2 pm, the Hollywood Sign shuttle takes visitors to a fantastic Hollywood Sign viewpoint without having to battle traffic or hike for hours. Click here for booking information.

Smog declined in Southern California over the last year. That’s according to the South Coast Air Quality District, which said we had 10 fewer high ozone days during 2015’s peak smog season than the previous year. El Nino brought a flurry of calls about when the hiking trails on are open or closed according to the weather.  The hiking trails operate on the same hours and restrictions as Griffith Park.  If Griffith Park is open, our hiking trails are open as well.

With the upcoming closure of Runyon Canyon, we want to assure you that the hiking trails to the Hollywood Sign are still open.  Check out our recommended trails here.  And please note that the trails might be experiencing higher amounts of people so try to use public transportation or carpool when entering the park.

Hikes to the Hollywood Sign and viewpoints to the Hollywood Sign will be open Memorial Day weekend.  The hikes hours are always the same as Griffith Park’s hours. Please bring plenty of water and remember trespassing to the Sign is always illegal.

A reminder that trespassing to the Sign is illegal and you will be arrested.  Please respect the rules set up by the city and respect that the land around the Sign is dedicated to the animals of Griffith Park.  Thank you.

Fire risk is HIGH in the Hollywood Hills.  Fire fighters have been hard at work trying to contain a forrest fire near our famous Sign. Please be careful while hiking in the dry hillside and do not bring any open flames (cigarettes, camp fires, fireworks) into the park.

The Griffith Observatory shuttle phase II is underway.  The shuttle will provide access to Hollywood Sign viewpoints and hiking trails to people who choose not to drive inside Griffith Park.  Follow all the news on the ongoing shuttle here .

The Hollywood Sign sits within Griffith Park and access to the hiking trails around the Sign are only available during Griffith Park hours.  The park is open from sunrise to sunset so as the days get shorter, the park will be closing earlier. Plan accordingly!

Beginning later this year, parking in the Observatory lot, as well as long East and West Observatory roads, and Western Canyon/Fern Dell road will be marked up to $4 an hour, according to the Los Feliz Ledger . No stress though, as you’ll still be able to find free parking in other spots throughout Griffith Park, and will be able to ride a free shuttle from those parking lots up to the Observatory....
